The release date of Grand Theft Auto V has stirred up a bit of controversy in the gaming community. Having pushed it back from the spring until September; Take-Two appears to be aiming at a next generation console release.
I have been looking forward to this game ever since I heard about it a few months ago and if that means waiting until the next generation consoles come out then I am fine with that, my wallet however is not.
It is not confirmed that Microsoft or Sony will launch their new consoles by September but Take-Two seems hopeful that by the years end we will see new consoles. Yet, Strauss Zelnick, the chief of Take-Two, told analysts that Grand Theft Auto V‘s delay has nothing to do with the so called release of next-generation consoles.
Some could see this decision as possibly hurting the sales of Grand Theft Auto V. With the possible release of the next-gen consoles, consumers could hold off on buying GTA and use their money to purchase the consoles instead. However, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter believes the opposite saying,
“While we believe that few gamers who intend to purchase GTA will hold off their purchases at launch, many next generation consoles will be bought over the next two years and those purchasers will be less likely to purchase a current generation game once they have become a next generation household,We think that the launch of next generation consoles shortly after the release of GTA V could impact ongoing sales in 2014 and beyond.”
Whether the delay of Grand Theft Auto V was a planned ahead of time to push on the new consoles or there was a specific reason we are not privy to know. The game still looks amazing and I am certain that no matter the reason we are looking forward to a fantastic game.
