Rockstar have released a trailer showing a glimpse of whats to come in Grand Theft Auto V.
Grand Theft Auto V is the ‘fifth’ game in the Grand Theft auto series from developer Rockstar Games. Whilst there have been 15 GTA games in total including games such as Chinatown wars, Vice City and San Andreas. Grand Theft Auto V is the fifth instalment of the series ‘main storyline’ that started anew in Grand Theft Auto 3. Grand Theft Auto V is also said to be the largest and most ambitious game world that Rockstar have created to date.
Grand Theft Auto 5 seems to follow Grand Theft Auto IV’s lead and take place in the present day. It also takes place in ‘Los Santos’ and its surrounding streets, countryside and beaches. Los Santos is also an area featured in the third installment of the GTA series release in 2004 GTA San Andreas. Interestingly however the license plates shown in the trailer shown on the vehicles read ‘San Andreas’ not ‘Los Santos’ as they should. The ‘Vinewood’ sign from San Andreas is also shown in the trailer.
Grand Theft Auto V’s trailer shows the narrator who is possibly the protagonist speaking about why he moved to Los Santos stating that ‘maybe it was the weather’. He expresses his desire to retire and to be a family man. The protagonist seems to have moved to remove himself of the shackles of a criminal lifestyle. However the trailer shows that he will be lured back into a life of crime.
Grand Theft Auto V seems to focus on comparing those who have an excess of wealth to those with little to no money. GTA V’s trailer shows a variety of prosperous areas in California. It shows vast areas and widespread prosperity. People are shown in the trailer driving sports cars, vineyards and playing golf. The trailer then takes a bleaker turn showing areas in the game possibly hit hard by the recession. The game shows posters showing closing down sales offering 70 %. Foreclosure signs are seen, a homeless man is shown begging and a group of people are shown to be living under the freeway.
The Grand Theft Auto V logo is shown in the trailer .The ‘V’ drawn in a style similar to a banknote. The game seems to focus on money and how far people will go to obtain it. Rockstar have released some information about the game commenting that:
“Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.”
Grand Theft Auto V will also have a wide range of vehicles available that are shown in the trailer. These include ambulances, airplanes, helicopters, convertibles , motorcycles and jet skis. Rockstar have confirmed that players will be have the ability to fly airplanes and helicopters. The ability to fly planes was not possible in Grand Theft Auto 4 as the game map was too small. This suggests that the map in GTA V will be much bigger.
Grand Theft Auto V is described as a game which is taking a bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer.
Grand Theft Auto V will be released on PS3, XBOX 360 and PC and is predicted for release in 2012
