The latest instalment of the highly popular Growlanser series of games has been released for the PSP in North American stores and online through the Playstation Network. Growslanser: Wayfarer of Time is the first time that western audiences will be exposed to the fourth edition of the series. It was originally released for the PS2 in 2003. It is a tactical RPG that mixes an epic story with combat mechanics that will be familiar to fans of the genre.
In commenting on the release the games, publishers outlined their commitment to releasing games outside the mainstream.
“With the launch of the strategy RPG Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, an iteration in the popular franchise never before released in North America, ATLUS demonstrates the continuation of its proud heritage of supporting niche titles aimed at the core gamer,” said Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Index Digital Media Inc. “We are not intimidated by the challenges of servicing a smaller audience or pursuing more modest success with a given project. Our fans are excited for a new Growlanser title and we are excited to be able to bring one to them.”
(1) Wayfarer of Time tells of a land-once rich with culture and technology – long ago nearly wiped out by evanescent divine beings.
(2) New characters, scenarios, and events are complemented by a host of visual and technical improvements, dramatically improved loading times, and a message skip option that lets players rapidly advance the story.
(3) Players can spend time getting to know the characters in their party, even going on a vacation with them apart from the game’s main quest.
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time is available in North American stores and on the Playstation Network from July 31st.
