Muse Games have announced that Guns of Icarus Online will launch next month on the 29th October. ‘Guns of Icarus Online’ is a multiplayer airship combat game where players are put in the shoes of an airship gunner who is attempting to survive in a “steampunk-inspired” post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Muse Games have stated that the extra 30 days will give the company extra time to ensure the game is "feature complete and bug free."
‘Guns of Icarus Online’ is the follow up to the 2010 shooter Guns of Icarus. The original game allowed players to man a gunship on the Icarus zeppelin. In the game players are faced with the task of destroying others crafts, whilst repairing their own as needed. In Guns of Icarus Online this premise is expanded and teams of four can now run the entire ship.
Guns of Icarus Online is the first co-operative airship combat game which mixes first-person shooter action with team-based strategy. In the game up to four people can crew a ship. Players will have to join a team and fight against other ships above the post-apocalyptic work. In the game players will also move from town to town where they will trade and collect resources. Guns of Icarus Online will require players to use teamwork and tactics to dominate the skies.
Guns of Icarus Online will support up to 32 players per match. This allows four players per ship with a maximum of eight ships. Gamers will be able to choose from three classes; these are Captain, Engineer and Gunner. The Captain will fly the ship and direct the crew members, the Gunner will man the ships weaponry and the Engineer will repair the ship as it takes damage.
Guns of Icarus Online is currently in closed beta. The Guns of Icarus team will also be at the Eurogamer Expo. Gamers will be able to stop by, play the game and meet the developers. The Eurogamer Expo will take place in London's Earl Court from 27th-30th September 2012.
The game will launch for PC and Mac via Steam on the 29th October.
