Epic Games, Inc. announces Laura Fryer as the general manager of its new Seattle studio which is currently focusing on engineering and improving the company’s award-winning Unreal Engine technology. Bringing to the table more than 17 years of experience in the industry, Fryer will manage Epic Games in Seattle and direct its strategic goals.
Before Epic Games, Fryer was general manager of WB Games Seattle for four years where she directed game development for Warner Bros.’ international studios in the Seattle area, including Monolith, creator of the highly popular “Gotham City Impostors” and upcoming title “Guardians of Middle Earth.”
“Laura Fryer is one of the brightest leaders of the game industry today, and we’re thrilled to have her guide our new Seattle studio,” Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps said, “Laura was a key member of the ‘Gears of War’ team, and we’ve long hoped to work with her again.”
As one of Microsoft Game Studios’ first employees, Fryer shipped numerous games as a producer, and also envisioned and created Microsoft’s first release of Zone.com. During her time with Microsoft, she also directed the Xbox Advanced Technology Group and was a founding member of the Xbox project. As the director of the project, she cultivated worldwide Xbox Developer Support, created the Xbox Advisory Board, launched XNA, and ran Xbox game developer events all around the world. Also, as an executive producer at Microsoft Game Studios, Fryer was responsible for shipping “Gears of War” and “Gears of War 2.”
Laura Fryer has been listed as Next Generation’s “Game Industry’s 100 Most Influential Women,” Gamasutra’s “Top 20 Women in Games.” And in The Hollywood Reporter’s “Top 12 Most Influential Women in Gaming.”
