League Of Legends Championship Series – The Future of eSports?

Riot Games, the developer of the most played PC game in the world, League of Legends announced today what they think is the future of the eSports genre.

Early 2013, the best players around the world will compete in a League of Legends Championship Series.
It offers a new professional gaming league with players from all around the world; North America, Europe & Asia.
There will be multiple season matches each week, with HD streaming broadcasting the games around the world for free.

“Talking to players around the world, they repeatedly asked if we could kick League of Legends eSports into higher gear,” said Brandon Beck, co-founder and CEO of Riot Games. “The new League of Legends Championship Series is our answer. Millions of fans tune in every time we support a major League of Legends tournament, so we’re broadening that support in an unprecedented way.”

These are some key facts about the League of Legends Championship Series:

1) The top 8 teams from North America and Europe and top teams from Asia will compete.

2) League of Legends Championship Series teams will not need to go to regular work places again, as this will be their work, with salaries, prize pools, and other compensations offered, making it a secure career path!

3) With several matches a week, aiming for regional playoffs and the destination being a World Championship event, eSport fans will really soak this up, especially since the HD broadcasts will be 100% free to watch online.

Season Two of the North American and European Regional competitions will be underway soon, with the consequences affecting the next season. The top three teams will pre-qualify for the league.

The European Season Two Regionals will begin at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany on August 16th through to August 19th.

The North American Season Two Regionals will be at PAX in Prime, Seattle, Washing on August 30th through to September 2nd.
