Valve released some HD gameplay footage for its Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC for Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. Originally scheduled for release on the same day as the Mac and PC versions, the Xbox 360 version is expected to be launched sometime next week. The DLC includes updated versions of Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest and Crash Course, and of course, the Cold Stream campaign.
Cold Stream throws players deep in the backwoods, the ideal spot for a zombie ambush. The goal is to navigate through the woods, survive, and reach a helicopter rescue at the end of the level. Teamwork is essential to survival as players can easily be picked off by hordes of undead walkers. Zombies emerge from everywhere. Some are seen dropping from cliffs, others run out from thick bushes and from behind trees.
These aren’t your usual slow-walking, groaning corpses that we have grown accustomed to. These zombies run fast, making it easier for them to swarm and overwhelm the players. Some of them have even mutated to some pretty insane beasts. There was one large one that actually hopped on one of the player’s backs. Luckily for them, they had someone close to shoot it off. Some zombies can even strangle players from afar, using their tongues to choke the life out of them.
Everything seemed to be going well for the players up until the end. On top of a cliff, there was this hulking giant of a zombie tossing rocks down at the players. No matter how many bullets were pumped into the behemoth, it just kept coming. To make matters worse, he had a few friends with him. The team was easily overwhelmed, despite efforts to revive fallen players, and ended with everyone dying. It just goes to show you that one misstep and a large zombie can decimate a team.
