The London Screenwriters’ Festival have announced that they will deliver a video game script lab as part of the London Screenwriters festival. Steve Ince has been chosen to deliver the script lab on writing for games.
Six applicants will be selected for the three hour lab. They will be chosen through an application process. Participants will be expected to have a good understanding and working knowledge of videogames.
In the workshop participants will look at how game writing relates to interactivity, game design and gameplay; action sequences; cut-scenes; conditional dialogue; breaking the fourth wall; the iterative process; history of game text and much more.
The workshop will be highly interactive and is designed to develop participants’ skills to fit a highly interactive medium.
Steve Ince is an acclaimed videogames writer who has worked with various developers and publishers in the US and across Europe, including Wizarbox, EA, CDProjekt Red and Floodlight games. Steve Ince has worked on games like ‘Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon’ and ‘The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’. Steve also gained a nomination for Excellence in Writing at the Game Developers Choice Awards for Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon and received a second nomination from the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain for the game, So Blonde.
To apply for the workshop applicants should submit:
1. A one page pitch document for a game. (story synopsis, suggestions for gameplay style, player role).
2. A one page statement on how you see writing for games/what you want to get out of the lab. (500 words total).
3. At least five pages of interactive script with notes on how it relates to your intended game storyline. (There is no right or wrong approach or format.) Steve Ince has a preference for adventure, action-adventure, RPG, casual HOG/adventure games or any similar game styles.
Videogame scripts should have applicants name and title on each page. Documents should be presented in .doc, .docx or PDF format. Applicants should also include their LSF ticket number in the body of the email.
