The newest entry in the series returns, bringing players back into the frigid world where monsters roam. Lost Planet 3 was released in North America today and Europe August 30th for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and as a digital download on PC. The retail version for Windows will release later on September 27th.

The harsh conditions that has become a staple for the series of the Lost Planet series. Returning to E.D.N. III, Jim Peyton a rig pilot leaves Earth to take on a dangerous job for the Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC), to obtain precious samples for a new energy source that could help solve the crisis on Earth. The third entry plans on revealing some of the mysterious background surrounding the history of Earth’s struggles for thermal energy.

Lost Planet 3, plans on combining two different styles of gameplay from within the rig and outside on foot. The rig acts as a home and as protection from the cold weather and dangers lurking outside. Jim will use a wide variety of tools and weapons to battle the Akrid on his search for energy. Outside, the view switches to the classic third person view to battle the dangerous elements.

The newest entry also adds multiplayer modes that extend the gaming experience online. Players will take control of either NEVEC forces or Snow Pirates in up to five versus five battles. The official soundtrack that features music that is also in-game is available digitally on iTunes and Amazon in North America and Europe. Lost Planet 3 is available for $59.99.
