The Nintendo handheld family just got bigger with the Nintendo 2DS

Well great now where going to have to think of a new nickname for the old DS

It just wouldn’t be a Nintendo handheld without some sort of new version and here we go again this time with the newest member, the Nintendo 2DS.

The Nintendo 2DS is basically just a 3DS without the ability to use the consoles 3D technology. Along with the 3DS library the console still has the backward compatibility as well as all of the online capabilities like Streetpass, Spotpass and eShop.

In an odd design choice unlike the 3DS, the Nintendo 2DS can’t be folded. While it does help to give it a distinctive look from the 3DS does mean that it can be annoying to carry around as it does look a little bulky. You can however buy an optional carrying case in either red or blue for $12.99.

If you interested in trying the 2DS for yourself than you can starting this October till November 3rd in a sampling tour with Simon Mall.

The 2DS has been designed to be a cheaper entry point into Nintendo’s newest handheld. While there is no price for the 2DS in Europe it has been priced at $129.99 in North America.

The handheld is set to be released October 12th which you may recognise since it’s also the release date of Pokémon X and Y.
