Miner Wars 2081 Goes Alpha

Miner Wars 2081 Goes Alpha

I remember shooters had a lot more variety of game-worlds to them in the past. One shooter that stuck out the most for me would be Descent on the PC, which allowed you to fly around in a 3D world shooting at your targets. Descent could work in our time as you take control of a pilot in a fighter ship, flying around in tight corridors with full 3D control and shooting down enemy fighter ships with various weapons. It seems Keen Software House shares the same opinion by reliving the experience of Descent, as their Miner Wars 2081 enters Alpha stage.

In Miner Wars 2081, you can experience what it’s like to apply shooter-mechanics to dog-fights in tight corridors and full-motion, motion-sickness glory. Descent into the mineshafts in a Arion MK7 Combat & Mining Ship where enemy ships come from the floors, walls, and ceiling towards you. There is no cover to hide behind in this game as you have wide corridors to empty your machine gun and rockets trying to hit your targets. Plus, considering your ship is a mining ship, there is destructable terrain by removing debris or destroying doors. Like Red Faction games you can also make your own hallways by using up your rockets.

Miner Wars 2081 will have a single-player campaign, but also supports gamers with an in-game map editor. So far the game has pro voice actors John McCalmont, Tori Kamal, and JJ Aronson doing…Well, an okay roll. I don’t think the voice acting is great in the trailer I seen, but the idea of flying around in a space ship looks exciting. Plus, with the inclusion of the Playground sector, you can make your own maps to play in while the game nears completion.
