It is not every gen that Pokémon adds a new type
Before we get to the new Pokémon, we should start with the biggest news for Pokémon, the Fairy type. The most important thing about the Fairy type so far, and the most useful, is that the Fairy type is super effective against (the over powered) Dragon type which is really good because until now the Dragon type has only two weaknesses in itself for some reason.
Along with the new Fairy types that are getting introduced in this generation some previous generation Pokémon will also get the Fairy type. Confirmed to become Fairy Pokémon so far are Marill, Jigglypuff and oddly enough Gardevoir.
The main new Pokémon shown off in the trailer is the Fairy type Sylveon. During the trailer Sylveon is shown using the first Fairy move Moonblast which is a powerful Fairy move that can lower the opposing Pokémon’s Attack statistics.
Besides Sylveon the trailer also briefly shows two other new Pokémon the Dragon-Flying type Noivern and yet another Bug-Flying type in Vivillon.
Noivern is another Pokémon designed to resemble a bat and is the coolest looking next gen Pokémon revealed so far. It is classified as the Sound Wave Pokémon and can reduce large boulders to small pebbles with its ultrasonic waves.
The reason I bring this up is that it is shown using a new move called Boomburst. Boomburst is a move where the Pokémon emits an explosive sound wave to attack all the enemies around them so don’t use this during double matches.
If Noivern is the best looking new Pokémon released so far than Vivillon is the most ordinary (so far anyway). Vivillon is by far one of the more interesting looking Bug-Flying type so far but it is not shown using any new moves yet.
On a side note Vivillon is most likely a final evolution due to the fact that for most of the Bug-Flying types so far, they have all been final forms.
Finally, there is Pokémon-Amie; which is a new mode that allows you to play with and feed your Pokémon. This mode will, for the most part, take place on the bottom scene and the idea of it is that you can use it to increase your bonds with your team.
For the most part I am not sure what real use it will have except for using it on Pokémon that needs to love you to evolve and at the moment it feels a little gimmicky.
So that is the new Pokémon X and Y UK trailer and so far it is shaping up to be a great edition to the franchise. The new Fairy type helps deal with Dragon types and by adding a new type to new and old favourites just adds a new layer of strategy.
Pokémon X and Y is due out in October 12th
