New studio BitFinity seeking funding for Tadpole Treble

Tadpole Treble

Kickstarter campaign to support a new music-adventure game for PC, Mac and (hopefully!) Wii U

Music is a key feature of most video games, but game designer siblings Matthew and Michael Taranto are taking that a step further with their project, Tadpole Treble. The game proposes to put players in control of Baton, a tadpole, who is trying to traverse some dangerous levels.

The twist? Each level is based on sheet music. A different, unique song will be utilised for each level, and the notes of that song will dictate the obstacles and layout of the level that Baton is tackling. To make it even much musical, the player needs to use Baton’s tail to smack objects in time to the beat as the tadpole progresses through the level. As the project’s Kickstarter page proclaims, you are literally playing along with the music! There’ll be expansions on this basic concept, including boss battles, enemies and lightning strikes to keep it interesting.

While all the songs are due to be written exclusively for the project, they’re due to be based on the on some iconic video game soundtracks, including classics from the Final Fantasy, Zelda and Banjo-Kazooie series. Each stage is promised to include a unique style, to make each challenge that little bit different and keep players coming back to the game.

The game is currently being designed for PC and Mac, and is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign. The team has raised $23,127 of their $30,000 target, and has roughly two weeks left to achieve this, so get donating! If over $50,000 is raised, BitFinity they’ll be launching the game on Wii U as well, and there are a whole host of available treats for people who donate, including the opportunity to get yourself in to the credits if you donate over $20. For any budding composers out there, you can get your own composition converted into a level if you donate over $2,000.

So hurry up and get donating! The Kickstarter for the project is available at this link, and if the project reaches its total, Tadpole Treble should be launching some point in 2014.
