Nintendo Releases Sales Report

Nintendo Releases Sales Report

Nintendo recently released a sales report, summarizing the company’s earnings and losses.

During the time between April and June, Nintendo reported a £143 million loss in the three-month span. However, the company still remains optimistic, relying on their 3DS sales to pull them back up.

Though Nintendo has generated an astounding £700 million during the period, the increasing cost of sales and operating expenses have dragged one of the largest gaming corporations under for the third quarter. The price for manufacturing their 3DS handheld may be the cause of this unfortunate turn.

Nintendo wanted to point out that their financial losses have not hampered the company’s performance. In fact, their performance has improved according to Nintendo. As revealed, Nintendo said that 3DS sales were gradually making progress, selling approximately 19 million units worldwide to retail.
Software for the 3DS made improvement, shipping 7.39 million compared to 4.53 million in the previous year. Software stands at approximately 53 million in total.

Nintendo predicts to sell 18.5 million 3DS units by March 2013, and at the same time, regain a desirable financial standing.

As of today, Nintendo has sold 19 million 3DS handhelds since its launch in Japan last February.

Wii sales are dropping at a noticeable rate. This year, Nintendo sold 710,000 Wii consoles during the quarter. This is a decrease from the 1.56 million units sold in 2011 and the 3.04 million units sold in 2010.

Wii games have also seen a decrease in sales, dropping from 13.44 million units last year, to 8.47 units this year. Altogether, about 827 million units of software have been sold during the Wii’s lifetime.

The DS system totaled 540,000 units in quarterly sales. Compare that to the 1.44 million handhelds sold last year, these figures are not too good. Lifetime sales have broken the 152 million mark.

Unlike Microsoft and Sony, who sell their new consoles at a loss, Nintendo tries to balance production costs to maintain a profit margin for its gaming systems.
