Eager explorers looking for ancient, steampunk artifacts within the ancient ruins nested in City of Steam only have one more week left in the Alpha testing weekend!
For anyone that missed out on the previous report of City of Steam: The game is a full-3D, browser-based MMORPG that lets players explore a steampunk world filled with familiar fantasy races. Expect to find lots of shiny green (or whatever colored items the kids are raving about these days) in this game which looks to be heavily inspired by Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura and Silverfall.
The story for City of Steam might sound familiar to refugees from Ferelden: Players will play as familiar fantasy races rushing towards the declining metropolis, Nexus. Their homelands are troubled by bad times, but anyone can easily boost the economy of any area when Diablo moves in with all his colored-pants ready to be sold to merchants. And that seems to summarize City of Steam pretty well: You will fight against mutated beasts and malfunctioning abominations, exploring ancient ruins for treasure.
Being still in Alpha testing, Mechanist Games are still looking for input from players on what bugs need squashing or how to improve the content of City of Steam. Unfortunately of the three ‘greenskin’ races (goblins, hobbes, and orcs), only the goblins were allowed as a playable race along with human and elf. But Mechanist Games announced that there will be a fourth Alpha testing weekend, which will let players jump into the shoes of all nine races.
Anyone that participates in the City of Steam weekend testing might be interested in the contests found in the forums, with in-game rewards. If you can complete scavenger hunts, report bugs, or even make videos advertising the game, then you might win these prizes. Anyone that purchases the higher level supporter packs for City of Steam will be able to design new items for the game.
The final Alpha testing weekend starts this Friday and this Sunday. Visit the City of Steam Web site to get an alpha key, or sign up for their newsletter to improve your chances of getting alpha keys.
