Guest Appearances By Batman And Others For SpecialEffect Charity Event

Ukie’s London Games Festival Art Exhibition will be exhibiting its entire collection in order to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the charity SpecialEffect.

Over 100 pieces from the month-long London Games Festival 2012 funded by Ukie were put on display at London’s City Hall in an event supported by the Mayor of London.

There were several “guest” appearances for the SpecialEffect charity. Pieces from games like Batman: Arkham City made by London-based developer Rocksteady Studios. Even the Moshi Monsters and everyone’s favorite tomb raider Lara Croft stood alongside famous pieces from artists such as Yuji Uekawa and Yoji Shinkawa. The exhibition was made to celebrate the culture and growth of videogames and London’s great contribution to it.

All of the proceeds from the sale are to be given to SpecialEffect, a charity that literally does whatever it takes to help every person with a disability. Their goal is to help these people lead better lives through games, art and technology.

The collection will be available to bid on in four batches, the first is going online now and the next three will feature art from the exhibition being added to the auction every Monday until December 3rd. In the first batch, three signed pieces from Batman: Arkham City, two Fable 3 pieces signed by Peter Molyneux and the artists, a signed metal Gear Solid ‘Raiden” canvass, plus pieces from Tomb Raider, Dishonored, Moshi Monsters and Runescape will be shown and available for auction.

“We were absolutely overwhelmed with the number of people that came to the exhibition,” said Kirsty Payne, festival director of the London Games Festival. “People from all walks of life – those who played games, and those who didn’t – travelled far and wide to appreciate the phenomenal pieces of art which have been kindly donated by the industry.

“We were also immensely gratified by how everyone reacted when we showed them the work that SpecialEffect does – and we’re incredibly excited about the potential this auction has. Amazing, on-of-a-kind pieces, with all proceeds going to this amazing charity. Not only is it going to be a good Christmas for the winning bidders, but for those who benefit from SpecialEffect’s brilliant work too.”

Ukie brings you the London Games Festival, in association with The Guardian, ran from September 27th and ended on October 28th. A diverse range of events were featured all the way from gigantic consumer exhibitions like Eurogamer Expo and MCM Expo, to careers’ fairs and educational summits, plus business to business conferences, knowledge and networking seminars and BAFTA lectures – each one celebrating the gaming industry and its rich culture.

For the next four weeks the London Games Art auction will be taking place at www.londongamesart.com, with several additional pieces of art from the exhibition being added every Monday. This auction ends December 3rd, so head over to the site and start bidding!
