Play Carrier Command at HMV Gamerbase London

A long, long time ago.  In a game generation far away…There were classic games your Parents might remember.  I'm not talking about Mario as that is still available.  I'm talking about a well-respected Real Time Strategy game Carrier Command on the ZX Spectrum,  Commodore 64, and other machines released in 1988.  If you remember this Vector-based game, then you should look to get at HMV Gamerbase at Trocadero to play the original on an LCD screen.

Carrier Command will be available at the London Games Festival between 10 AM to 6 PM.  A working Commodore 64 will be there to run the original game, which is displayed on a larger screen for everyone to see.  Unfortunately, no resolution will help fix the dated graphics in Carrier Command, but all this is meant to show how similar the core mechanics are to Bohemia Interactive's re-imagining of the game in a modern sequel.

Carrier Command: Gaea Mission is a sequel also available to play at HMV Gamerbase.  On the planetoid Taurus, a war is brewing between the United Earth Coalition and Asian Pacific Alliance.  Using an advanced aircraft carrier, players must capture islands on Taurus using air, land, or sea drones crafted in your carrier.  The islands will provide resources to build more drones, yet they can also be attacked and taken from hostile drones.

What makes Carrier Command: Gaea Mission stand out is the seamless transition from strategy to action mechanics.  Players can jump into any of the three types of drones at any time to drive and engage in combat with them.  So one player could be flying around a base in an air drone, or wait at base to drive Artificial Intelligence drones via sea to an unclaimed island.

The mechanic for Carrier Command: Gaea Mission seems interesting, but I'm not sure anyone will recognize this franchise.  There is a trailer for the game on their Web site if you want to see some gameplay footage.  If you are looking for a graphical update to your favorite vehicle-simulation game from the Amiga, then Carrier Command: Gaea Mission might be worth a look.

Carrier Command: Gaea Mission will be available this Friday (September 28th, 2012) for Xbox 360 and PC.
