Final Fantasy MMORPG wins a new award recognising outstanding overall titles
Final Fantasy XIV, the MMO in the series since Final Fantasy XI a decade ago, has had a tumultuous past to say the least. The original title was released back in 2010 to universal criticism, highlighting the weak combat system, the ineffective user interface and many other issues. Offering a full apology to its customers, Square Enix completely revamped the game, and released Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn earlier this year. The new rendition of the game has received good to great review scores, and was launched on the Playstation 3 as well as PC.

The original release was greeted with critical reviews, but A Realm Reborn has been vastly more successful.
In recognition of this drastic turn around, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been given a ‘Special Award’ at the 2013 Playstation Awards. The award is a new creation for this year’s event and rewards games based on their overall achievement and significance, taking into consideration key factors such as originality, hype, influence and performance.
To commemorate this excellent achievement, it was also announced that the beta of the Playstation 4 version of the game would coincide with the release of the PS4 to the Japanese market on 22nd February 2014. The official start date of the service was also revealed to be April, thought a specific release date as not mentioned.
To further hype this announcement, a demonstration of the PS4 version will be hosted by Naoki Yoshida, a producer and director on the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn project, on Saturday 14th December at 4.00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The PC and PS3 versions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn are available right now, and this news seems to confirm an April 2014 release date for the Playstation 4 version, so not much longer to wait now!
