PlayStation 4 Sales Over 7 Million Units Globally

As of April 7th, 2014, the PlayStation 4 has sold well over 7 million units all around the world. Which really is impressive when you consider a lot of owners of PlayStation 3’s and Xbox 360’s haven’t made that leap yet. Plus, the PlayStation 4 has yet to really catch fire in terms of a library. If you needed proof, here is the proof. Consoles aren’t dead and they are here to stay.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., had this to say:

“The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice. The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage. We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months.”

As I mentioned above the PlayStation 4 has a good library considering how long it has been on the shelf, but it has yet to catch fire. Later this year there will be plenty of AAA titles on the PS4, such as: MLB 14: The Show, Watch_Dogs, Destiny, and more. So, it’s a great start for Sony, and it’s a great sign for the industry as a whole. People are still hungry for consoles.

Here are some other tidbits about how consumers are using the PlayStation 4. More than 145 million shares have been captured by players using that “Share” button. Also, there have been more that 4.9 million gameplay broadcasts using the Twitch and UStream apps on the PlayStation 4.

So, with all that said, what do you guys think? Are you surprised about how well the PS4 is selling currently? What games are you looking forward to later this year? Let us know in the comment section below.
