Cherrypop Games and Mastertronic are bringing Pool Nation to XBLA on October 31st. It will bring the thrill of “perfectly-pitched pool to your living room.” I don’t know what that means, but I like the alliteration. “Xbox LIVE is the perfect platform for Pool Nation.” Said Andrew Parsons of Mastertronic. “We wanted to provide fans with a whole range of opportunities to humiliate their friends.” Sounds like someone understands how Xbox Live works.
Now you can yell slurs at your friends while you play a new game. But this isn’t just any game. This is the sort of game that 50-year-old men play when they want to pretend they are gangsters and look like they’re bad. It also serves as a backdrop to most bar fights, since those pool cues can make lethal weapons. I believe the Joker also used a pool cue for tryouts.
Pool Nation will feature HD graphics, several game modes, and “the balls to pull it off.” Oh boy. It looks like Cherrypop Games is full of ways to pun on male anatomy. Of their Endurance Mode, they said, “It’s basically psychological warfare but with shinier balls. Endurance isn’t for the faint of heart.” Get it? Because of balls? Goodness, people sure are edgy these days! I mean, SD graphics for pool are for casual gamers. Real gamers want to see those spheres in beautiful HD with a realistic physics engine. Oh the wonders of modern gaming.
