RAW: Realms of Ancient War Trailer
Most action-RPG fans that are focused on loot-gathering or slaying thousands of monsters for XP are content with playing Diablo III right now. Others (like me) are looking forward to Torchlight II, the indie sequel to 2009’s massive hit that nails the Diablo-like experience. However, while these games are awesome, they are exclusive only to the PC – so console gamers lose out on the countless hours of clicking monsters to death or nit-picking over the Axe+4 will give them better DPS (Damage Per Second) over a Sword+4. Wizarbox wants to introduce us to their own action-RPG later this year, but it will be available on consoles along with PC. RAW: Realms of Ancient War shows off a “overview” trailer, and announced it will be coming to Xbox LIVE, Playstation Network, and PC.
The trailer for RAW: Realms of Ancient War shows off three playable heroes: A warrior that runs around with no shirt on; a wizard that seems content in holding a glowing orb in his hand; and a woman with a bow. RAW: Realms of Ancient War promises that you can level any of the three characters, engage in two player co-op mode, and a “special incarnation” ability – which lets player take control of the game’s most powerful monsters when they are stunned, and use them to take down any weak monsters. Like Torchlight II and Diablo III, you will be able to kill a huge swarm of enemies with various ways of clicking them to death, or using abilities that are leveled up as your character grows in strength.
The game seems to have a mixture of the realistic, grim atmosphere of Diablo but with a bit more of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings thrown in. So if the cartoonish aesthetic turns you off from Torchlight II, this might suit your interest. I get the impression that this might play more like the classic arcade games Gauntlet but with inventory and character development from Diablo, which would be fun to play with a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard. RAW: Realms of Ancient War will be released on September 2012 to Xbox LIVE Marketplace, Playstation Network, and PC. Find out more about the game by visiting their Web site.
