Saints Row 4’s new trailer details and its release date revealed

Saints Row is coming back and it’s bringing some bizarre friends for the ride too

Recently Volition released the first trailer for its latest entry to the Saints Row franchise and it keeping with the series lenience to restraint and sanity this could be the most over the top entry yet and after Saints Row the Third that’s saying something. Before I continue I could bring up the fact that the content of this trailer and of the game in general is suitable for over 18’s only.

Since the events of Saints Row the Third the leader of Saints i.e. you has gone from being one of the world’s biggest celebrities to becoming the President of America. Can’t help but wonder if you’ll be able to customise the White House into say a strip club for instance.

But things don’t stay perfect for the Saints for long though (that would make for a boring game) because instead of the usual kill the gangs plot this time you’re fighting an alien invasion. The game technically won’t take place in Steelport but will instead take place in a “bizarre-Steelport simulation” as a press release put it so maybe you’ll have to kill gangs un order to escape the simulation and defeat the alien “granddaddy” leader Zinyak.

It wouldn't be a game with superpowers without stupid costumes

It wouldn’t be a game with superpowers without stupid costumes

Judging from the trailer Saints Row 4 will look the exact same as the previous game graphically anyway which wouldn’t be too bad if it wasn’t for the fact that Saints Row the Third looks a lot like Saints Row 2. This news couldn’t come as much surprise however because Saints Row 4 was originally going to be a DLC pack for the Third called “Enter the Dominatrix.

Speaking of the cancelled DLC pack, the super hero powers that where promised in “Enter the Dominatrix” will be in the sequel and are a big focus of the trailer so it looks like players may end up getting even more overpowered in this game than the last somehow considering that you could just buy invincibility near the end.

The trailer itself shows off some of the powers you’ll get to play with in-game and it appears that the developers Volition are big Prototype fans because a lot of the powers shown in the trailer resemble things you could do in that game like gliding and, super jump and super speed but there’s also telekinetic powers and ice abilities to play around with. Along with the powers the trailer also shows off some of the games new toys like a monster truck and a new gun that inflates people’s heads to ridiculous sizes oh and a mech suit as well.

Just another day in simulated Steelport.

Saints Row 4 is scheduled for release in North America August 20th and everywhere else on the 23rd of August on current gen consoles and PC. My one worry about the game so far (besides wondering if they’ll kill a main character at the start of the game like in the previous on) is that it might end up feeling too much like boxed DLC.
