The Critically acclaimed “Skylanders Swap Force” will be a release title for Xbox One and is out now for PS4
Skylanders is like the matrix. When it was pitched, no-one thought it would be good or catch on but its fan base has grown to the point that, even though its third instalment has been out for less than a month, it has managed to get to number 3 on the UK’s top 20 charts beating Sonic: The lost world, F1 2013 and even Pokemon X and Y and what’s more is that they are showing that they’re fully content to ride this wave of popularity by announcing that Skylanders Swap Force will be a release title for the Xbox One and is already available for the PS4.
This was, by any definition, a deviously smart move as by throwing the one–two punch of adding to the quite frankly pathetic amount of release titles for the next gen consoles and having the game as one of the few Christmas releases targeted for children, it looks like Activision could be in for quite a haul.
For those who don’t know, Skylanders is a game that comes with its own toy set but the gimmik is that every toy is a playable character that can be unlocked by scanning the toy on a reader that comes with the game. If you own the toy, you get to play as that character. Its a nice design choice which causes trading toys with your friends to become a gameplay element rather than a side-hobby of collecting the toys.
