DoubleDutch Games has announced that their award winning game, Speedrunner HD is going to be released on Valves PC platform, Steam. Speedrunner HD started life as a flash game that many people played over and over again. It gathered more attention when it hit Xbox Live Arcade and had a chance to appeal to a wider audience as it was critically acclaimed for its local multiplayer mode and tight controls that really gave the players a good time. Now after over 8 million times being played and the creation of a small following it is finally hitting Steam, giving it a chance to prove itself as one of the best multiplayer platformers out there.
Speedrunner HD has recieved many awards including Indie Game Magazine award for Best Xbox Live Indie Game of the Year 2011 and many high review scores. Listening to feedback from players and critics, DoubleDutch Games have taken their time to improve the game by offering over twice as much content, an advanced leaderboards and matchmaking system and (most importantly) a much-requested online multiplayer, allowing players to show off their grappling hook skills against friends and foes around the world.
“Yeah, we’re really excited to bring Speedrunner HD back to the PC, this time with full online multiplayer support,” says Casper van Est, founder of DoubleDutch Games. “When we first received an email out of the blue from Valve, saying that they were interesting in distributing the game on Steam, we couldn’t believe our eyes; I actually thought it was a practical joke.” Well, it sure wasn’t, and now the small indie team from the Netherlands have a chance to prove themselves to a big audience.
A release date hasn’t been announced yet, as the creators of the game first have to make sure that all the new functionality is working perfectly. DoubleDutch Games is planning an open Beta Test for the online multiplayer somewhere in the next few months, so those who are interested should keep an eye out on their website for more news on that.
