Square Enix yesterday released The World Ends With You: Solo Remix, a game for iOS platforms.
Solo Remix brings the critically acclaimed action RPG to mobile players with new tracks, and social gameplay elements.
A boy named Neku wakes up in a crowded intersection of Shibuya, in the heart of Tokyo, alone, and lost – unaware of how he got there. He realises he can hear people’s thoughts, and before he can think anymore about this, he receives a text message stating ‘Clear this mission… or face erasure.”
A countdown appears on his hand and strange monsters called ‘The Noise’ attack.
In all this confusion, he meets a girl called Shiki who insists they team up, so you must fend off The Noise, and survive 7 days in the game.
You will visit real life locations and take in some real Japanese culture through a hip fantasy lens.
The game offers easy control with touch commands like tapping, slashing, and dragging to both control Neku and to use combat abilities (pshychs).
Finishing the main story of Solo Remix will unlock a bonus chapter adding to the replay value, with more quests and items to find, new combat challenges, and secret reports to help answer some questions left unanswered.
Composer Takeharu Ishimoto is the heart of the music in the game, with over 60 songs. The soundtrack included offers high-quality audio, with full vocals, with remixes, and new songs.
Social interaction allows for wireless action, with games like Tin Pin Slammer which uses pins equipped in the main story. Other players with the game will be able to challenge you to the first to knock your opponents’ pins off the table.
Tap into the internet, and you will be able to populate the minds of in-game streetgoers with your tweets if you have a Twitter account.
You will be able to see other people in the form of avatars, inhabiting Shibuya. If your friends have Twitter accounts, the avatar will think their latest tweets, receiving free items with every passing tweet made, and vice versa.
To make the most of the full HD Retina-enabled displays on both the iPhone 4, iPad and later devices, the art and animation for Solo Remix has been redrawn, making the most of them.
The World Ends With You: Solo Remix doesn’t come cheap, but if you know about the series, it may be worth it.
The game is available on the iPhone for £12.99/€14.49 or for the iPad (2 or later) for £13.99/€15.99.
