Square Enix Set to Launch Dual-Genre Title, Heroes &Generals

Here’s an innovative idea for a game. Take all the glory of a First Person Shooter and combine it with the brain power of a Strategy game. Then allow players to choose sides in a World War II setting and have at it. Don’t limit players to just their PC though; no, give them access to the game on their mobile iOS and Android devices as well. Sound interesting? If so, check out Square Enix’s newest title Heroes & Generals.

As mentioned above, Heroes & Generals combines the FPS genre with that of a Strategy game. Players can choose to play the role of a Hero, fighting on the frontlines on-foot and in a variety of vehicles, or they can assume the responsibility of a General, ensuring troops and combat resources are best placed to outwit the opposing army. The game is being developed by the Copenhagen-based studio, Reto-Moto, and is currently in Closed-Beta on PC. Smart-phone and tablet access is not yet available; though once enabled, it will allow mobile users a new way to influence the ongoing war.

“Heroes & Generals blends two gaming genres to create a great, new experience, with multiple ways to play. It’s tailor-made for today’s gamers and we’re extremely excited to work alongside Reto-Moto to bring this to market as a Free2Play game delivered via the browser” said David Guldbrandsen, General Manager of Hapti.co, Square Enix’s new studio in Copenhagen focusing on browser games.

“A partnership with Square Enix is the best thing that could happen for Heroes & Generals and will help us reach a huge audience and ensure we can deliver more content, faster.” said Peter Fleckenstein, Co-founder of Reto-Moto. “We’ll continue to run a community driven development, and the trinity of Square Enix, Reto-Moto, and our community will make Heroes & Generals an incredible game that many gamers will play for years to come”.
