Strike Suit Zero’s trailer debuted at PAX this year. The trailer highlights the combat and some of the plot points of this space shooter. The developer of the title, doublesix games, described Strike Suit Zero as “ a unique arcade space shooter in which players will fly a transforming fighter – known as a “Strike Suit” – as they battle to save the Earth.” I feel like shooters in space to save the Earth are pretty much the bread and butter of the gaming industry, so “unique” may be a bit of an overstatement. The more appropriate word would be “common” although that doesn’t sound as intriguing. Also, why do players always have to save the Earth? It seems like just about every other game the Earth is being destroyed by zombies, or aliens, or demons, or very unhappy people. Maybe we should lower the stakes just a bit. Don’t gamers want to play as an ornery bear that swats away bugs and things as she tries to take a nap? We could call it, “Extreme Hibernation: Revenge of the Arthropods,” and the box art could be a bear wielding a mini-gun in her hands with a machete in her teeth with bug carnage all over the place. It would make millions I tell you.
Strike Suit Zero will give players the chance to save the forever imperiled Earth from destruction with the Strike Suit, which is equipped with guns and other abilities, because what problem can’t be solved with guns. Players will fight in zero gravity environments (because it is in space, after all) and play through branching missions where they have to make quick decisions because the entire planet is counting on you. The game will be released digitally for consoles and PCs in early 2012.
