Today may be a great day for WipeOut fans everywhere as rumours of Sony’s originally closed Liverpool Studio might be getting revived.
Playstation and WipeOut mourned in sheer confusion and sadness a few weeks ago as Sony decided to close down one of their original founding studios ‘Sony Liverpool’. The Liverpool based developer is best known for their critically acclaimed WipeOut franchise, which recently received great scores from around the media world, including our own site on the PS Vita title ‘WipeOut 2048’.
Fans noticed today though that Sony Liverpool pasted a quick message to Twitter and Facebook followers around the world with the simple message “WE. ARE. ALIVE”. The message also included an explosively beautiful piece of concept art from the WipeOut 2048.
This appeared on their Twitter feed:
Facebook also saw the same message appear on its official page:
Could this be the news Sony fans have being waiting for? The closure of the highly successful study brought a whole bunch of confusion to fans everywhere and seemed like a terrible business choice, especially seeing as the WipeOut franchise had a large part to play in the Playstation 3’s slowly growing success.
Sony Liverpool who were previously known as Psygonsis were originally founded in 1984 and produced a number of successful titles for the Playstation franchise, such as Colony Wars, G-Police, Destruction Derby, and of course WipeOut.
The studio is known as one of the pioneers of modern day racing games, which also helped give birth to the Formula 1 racing series.
