Surprise for Strategoria Beta Testers

The developer behind Stategoria, Amber Games, has surprised closed beta testers by allowing them to add as much gold and diamonds to their account as they like for free. The gold and diamonds usually cost real-world money, since this is a free-to-play game and their revenue source has to come from somewhere, but during the test they are encouraged to add as much loot to their account as they want. I’m guessing this is because they want to see if they can break the economy and create virtual inflation, where a loaf of bread will cost you 1,000 diamonds. Luckily, it is quite delicious as far as bread goes, so it is worth every gem.

Strategoria is a Middle Ages-themed MMO and real time strategy game that appears to strongly resemble Age of Empires. I loved that game. Wololo. The closed beta for Strategoria begins on October 8th. Besides players being encouraged to cause a Medieval-themed economic crisis, they are also encouraged to try all units, fight with as much power as they would like, and hire many, many heroes for free.

That last part is a bit scary to me, since it sounds like you’ll have to pay to do pretty much anything in this game as soon as it goes live. I’m guessing you’ll only be able to work the plow as a MMO serf for free after pay to play begins, but I’m sure eventually you’ll find a nice Lord who will pay you a fair wage for your labor. If you happen to know anything about the Middle Ages, you’ll know that was a hilarious joke. If you are reading this from the Middle Ages, I bet this is the best joke you’ve heard in a long time. Also, what do you think of the internet? Super weird right? No, I’m not a witch.
