Tomba! Available on European Playstation Network

MonkeyPaw Games, the developer behind Tomba! announced that it would be available today on the Playstation Network in Europe. Tomba! will be in the classics section on Playstation Network and will also be available for download on the Playstation Vita. "Tomba! is a title that completely fits the mold of MonkeyPaw Games: unique, retro, fun gameplay and a rare find. It’s being sold at prices more expensive than gaming systems these days. That, in itself, is proof that Tomba! still deserves your attention after all these years,” said John Greiner, President and CEO of MonkeyPaw Games. “We’re excited that fans will finally be able to play this legendary gem again, at home or on the go.”

So if you have a Vita you can now add another game to your collection. What are you Vita players up to now, like five games? Good for you. From what I understand about regional releases, the late releases in places outside of the USA (USA! USA! Sorry, we all have to do that. It’s a law.) can usually be chalked up to localization. The variety of languages and dialects can take extra time to implement. And we all know that the Brits are big into adding the letter “u” in strange places. I’m onto youu guuys.

You can tell that Tomba! is great because it has an exclamation point right in the title, which is a rarity since we appear to be living in the golden age of the colon, with titles like Modern Gritty Action Nonsense: Part 1: The Reckoning: Daddy Needs A New Pair of Shoes. Tomba! features a fellow with pink hair who must defeat evil pigs in an attempt to get back his grandfather’s special bracelet. This is definitely an older game, from the time when things were allowed to be unabashedly weird. Oh to live in a time before focus groups and dubious research ruined games. No target demos, no expected audience, just pure and unadulterated creativity. Now we’re happy if our shooters decide to venture out of the brown/gray/beige spectrum. I’m going to make a shooter that only uses primary colors. It will be revolutionary.
