Ubisoft have displayed their support of the Wii U console at the UK launch of the system, declaring that six of their games will be available for purchase with the console. Making up close to a quarter of the launch titles for the Wii U, Ubisoft’s game list includes Assassin’s Creed III, Sports Connection, Just Dance 4, Rabbids Land, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013 and ZombiU. Other Ubisoft titles such as Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth and Rayman Legends will also be released on the console early next year.
Ubisoft currently has the most games announced on the Wii U of any third party developer, with the company hoping that they will continue their tradition of multi-million franchises on Nintendo’s consoles. In order to make this a possibility, Ubisoft have released an application called the Uplay Wii U, available in the Nintendo eShop. This app gives owners of the console access to up to date news and trailers about all of Ubisoft’s titles. Each of Ubisoft’s games will also use Uplay to provide players with advice and rewards such as new game modes.
Geoffroy Sardin, vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft EMEA hopes that the Wii U will allow the company to “explore innovative gameplay concepts for our fans”, something reinforced by the Wii U exclusive features of many of the launch games:
- Assassin’s Creed III will include an expansive map on the GamePad, allowing players to locate key targets or places.
- Sports Connection will utilise the GamePad heavily, with options such as curl kicks in soccer, steering cars and fly catching a ball all becoming possible.
- Just Dance 4 will feature exclusive new modes such as Puppet Master and MC, allowing players to change choreography in real time and use the GamePad as a karaoke machine, featuring Wii U exclusive songs.
Ubisoft’s other games such as Rabbids Land and ZombiU will also strongly feature the GamePad, with the new controller providing a host of new gameplay possibilities not available on any other console.
