Today Activision announced that owners of the current-gen versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts can upgrade to the next-gen versions for just £10. Of course you won’t be able to do this cross platforms, but it’s still a great program for anyone that has to wait to get their next-gen system but does not want to miss out on all the COD action.
“Today we’re announcing that anyone who buys Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PS3 will be able to upgrade to Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PS4 for a limited time at a suggested retail price of just 10 dollars, 10 euros or 10 pounds,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “Retail programmes, announced by Amazon and GameStop allow our players to upgrade from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts for £10 as well. We have also previously announced that for a limited time our players will bring all of their Season Pass Content and all of their in-game progress with them within a console family, for no additional charge. We have the best fans in the world, and we want to make this transition as seamless and easy for them as possible. And there’s more news to come on that front. Stay tuned.”
This time around, Call of Duty: Ghosts is being developed by Infinity Ward and will be released on all platforms November 5, 2013. For more information head over to www.callofduty.com/ghosts.
I think this deal makes everyone happy. The gamers get all their content transferred to their new system and the company makes a little extra cash on the side. I guess Activision figures people are more likely to do the £10 deal than rebuy the game entirely. Although, I have to wonder what the differences between the current and next generation versions of the game will look like. Will they end up exactly the same? Or will the current-gen version just be god awful? Maybe they’ll both be great, but I suspect corners will get cut somewhere.
