What to Expect from Valve at 2013 GDC

As we approach the Game Developers Conference out in San Francisco PC gamers are getting more and more excited due to promises of Gabe Newell and Valve.

Valve announced that at their 2013 Game Developers Conference press conference Valve will discuss virtual reality or VR, specifically a design likely similar to Oculus Rift. If Valve’s recent statements on the Steam Box are any indication it seems likely that they will invest in the Oculus Rift while developing their own system to use with any PC and eventually the Valve branded Steam Box.

As for concrete details, Valve will port their own games to VR systems and goggles beginning with the widely popular Team Fortress 2, a free to play game on Steam.

Valve’s own Michael Abrash will be speaking at the 2013 Game Developers Conference and is expected to detail what the Team Fortress 2 port taught the VR team at Valve about Virtual Reality, and its challenges. This panel should not only lend a greater understanding on the prospect of VR specifically if it is indeed the future on PC gaming, but it should also serve as a platform for Valve to announce new hardware initiatives, which is expected by industry sources.
