Worms Revolution can now be pre-ordered through the Playstation Store. You, yes you, can own a copy starring everybody’s favorite invertebrates. There’s an obvious joke that could be made about a spineless hero, but I feel as though Duke Nukem has had to go through a lot, so I’ll take the high road.
I will say that it takes an especially stupid team of people to render a few misogynist jokes and rape fantasies as a way to appear “edgy.” What an appropriate way to end a sad little franchise. Sleep well, Duke.
Worms Revolution will launch on October 10th and will be £10.99. If you pre-order of course, you get extra stuff. In this case, if you pre-order Worms Revolution it will be £9.99 and you’ll receive a free version of Worms Crazy Golf. I don’t know how these worms manage to have arms, but bless them for learning to play golf.
They’re also apparently revolting against something, although it is unclear what. I’ve noticed that rain tends to be tough on the worm population, so perhaps they’ve concocted a clever way to get rid of rain forever. I’ve received a description of the game which makes very little sense and becomes more fascinating with every read: “Worms™ Revolution sticks an exploding sheep under worm-on-worm conflict and blasts it squarely into the 21st century.” I’m intrigued.
The game provides 32 single player missions, 20 puzzle missions, four maps to fight in, as well as four classes to choose from, including the Soldier, the Scout, the Scientist, and the Heavy. There are also new weapons and game modes, and players can customize their worms with hats, glasses, moustaches, victory dances, etc. The hats part I find to be especially interesting. It has worked out ridiculously well for Valve, which makes me wonder if they’re playing a prank on other publishers. Everybody likes to copy the successes of their competitors, so I expect to see more hats in more games. Also, characters who wear masks and are of indeterminate gender, although I’m pretty sure the Pyro is a lady.
Worms Revolution will also be available on XBLA and Steam on October 10th.
