XCOM: Enemy Unknown Available in North America

2K and Firaxis Games announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is available in North America today and will be available internationally on October 12th for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Apparently Game Informer went ahead and gave XCOM: Enemy Unknown a 9.5 out of 10 in addition to giving it “Game of the Month” honors for its November issue. I’m sure there was a lot of hand-wringing over that review score. I mean, we all know that game scores nowadays have to fall within a 7 to 10 point range, no matter how terrible the game is.

I’m sure game reviewers have received games where the disc is made of cardboard or the game crashes constantly, but in the name of game review integrity they had to stand by their principles and give it a 7.

“XCOM: Enemy Unknown revives the XCOM franchise, staying true to what fans loved in the original game while evolving and growing the experience to appeal to all gamers,” said Sarah Anderson, senior vice president of marketing for 2K. “Combining intense action and strategy, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is an experience unlike any other on the market, and one that no gamer will want to miss.” Gamers who pre-order the game will get bonuses such as a classic XCOM soldier, soldier decoration packs to allow customization, and complete color customization.

You’ll be the prettiest soldier on the battlefield, with an exact tint of teal that only you know about. There will be a free, playable demo of the game available on Steam, Xbox 360, and PS3 in North America. The demo will be available internationally on October 12th, and will show two levels of the single-player tutorial campaign.
