GTA V: Breaking records and boundaries!

GTA V: Breaking records and boundaries!

So Grand Theft Auto V is finally out and is more than likely in every console across the globe. The long awaited game is nothing short of spectacular and managed to break the record for single day sales by a huge margin. The title was previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which came out last year and stood at £310 Million. GTA V smashed that with an incredible £469 Million in 24 hours. When you consider Rockstar had a budget of £170 Million to make and promote the game, that is quite an incredible achievement. Stores across the world were open at midnight on the day of release, with 8100 stores opening in North America alone.

So far there haven’t been any major teething problems. Rockstar did make people aware via their twitter of an issue with installing the content on the play disc for the Xbox 360, saying that it could decrease performance and lower texture quality, but there is no need to install the data from that disk. The first disk however, does need to be installed. But when you consider how much content there is in this game, its understandable.

Grand Theft Auto 1: Birds eye view

A mission that is proving popular is the Assassination of the character Jackson Skinner. It is a fairly short mission where you have to steak out a prostitute, wait for Skinner to come and pick her up and then take him out. After that all you need to do is drive away and the mission is passed.

For those that don’t know, this is actually the 15th game in the massive series. The first game came out in 1997 and used the birds eye view format which most youngsters today wouldn’t have seen, but for the old school gamers like myself, will remember as some the most fun that could have been had at the time.

They used this format up until the release of GTA 3, which broke the boundaries of modern gaming and is the format that is still used in the series today, albeit with updated graphics and content.

Gran Theft Auto 3: Modern format

Without a doubt, Grand Theft Auto V is going to be hard to beat, not just this year, but for a long time to come. Not only has it broken sales records, but it is pushing the boundaries with content, graphics, sound and so much more. I think the figures speak for themselves, but in my opinion, this the best game of the year.
