VGX 2013: News, Previews, And Predictions

Getting Ready For VGX 2013 News, Previews, Predictions, etc.

This Saturday, December 7th, at 6:00 PM ET/ 3:00 PM ET, the VGX Awards (formerly the Spike Video Game Awards, AKA The VGA’s.) will be shown. First off, Spike announced the name change due to the fact that it’s a new generation of gaming and the VGX is the next generation of the VGAs. That isn’t the only change, though. This new format will give us, the fans, the gamers, more world premieres, interviews, and game demos.

Also, the VGX 2013 won’t just be shown live on Spike TV, but it will be shown live online as well. You’ll be able to watch it on your PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Twitch, iOS, and Android devices. Also, on various websites such as VGXLIVE.com, Hulu, Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com, and GameTrailers.com. All in all, this will be the most widely distributed live gaming event that has the potential to reach over 100 million households.

So, now that we got that out of the way, you may now be asking yourself what to expect at the VGX? Well, expect to see exclusive looks for games such as Titanfall, Quantum Break, South Park: Stick of Truth, Broken Age, Dying Light, Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America, will be presenting a new look at an upcoming Wii U game. Plus, there should be more news in the coming days and surprises to come that won’t get leaked leading up to the award shows.

Personally, I’m hoping for, and expect (given Naughty Dog’s record for showing exclusive trailers at the VGA’s.) information and a trailer of the next Uncharted game for the PlayStation 4. And for the record – if we do get more information on PlayStation 4 Uncharted at the VGX – I don’t expect the next Uncharted to be called Uncharted 4. I’m expecting it to be called Uncharted: *Insert Name Here* without the 4 to follow. Much in the same way like Killzone: Shadow Fall and InFamous: Second Son.

Also, I’m thinking Fallout 4 will be announced as well. There’s been a lot of rumors of late and I gotta think a new Fallout will finally be announced for the next gen consoles. Going back to Naughty Dog, maybe we’ll get a full length trailer and a release date for the upcoming DLC for the Last of Us: Left Behind.

Walking-Dead-Season-2

At last year’s VGA’s Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead won Game of the Year. This year, perhaps, there will be a release date for season 2 of The Walking Dead. Telltale Games has already stated that Season 2 will be coming out sometime this month. So, maybe we’ll get ourselves a concrete release date.

All in all, I’m looking forward to the news, previews, demos we get at the VGX. From what it sounds like it could be a bit like an E3 held in December…with awards given out as well. Speaking of awards….

The last two awards – the Best Mobile Game and Most Anticipated Game – are both viewer voted while the rest are voted by a council. The council is made up of writers, editors, etc. from various mainstream sites I’m sure you’ve heard of, but I won’t go into detail on that.

Anyway, back to the awards there’s some pretty tough choices It’ll be pretty interesting to see who wins. For example, Best Shooter you have BioShock Infinite which is up for Game of the Year, Battlefield 4 which has been critically acclaimed as the best FPS on the market, and of course, Call of Duty: Ghosts. Call of Duty is a very popular brand with a lot of backing….and it’s worth mentioning poor Metro: Last Light. That doesn’t have a chance.

Uncharted_TLOU_blog_960x540

Personally, some of my choices would be The Last of Us for Game of the Year…which means TLoU for Action/Adventure, Naughty Dog for Studio of the Year, and TLoU best PlayStation game as well. That’s one thing about these award shows, for example. I believe Grand Theft Auto V will win, but that doesn’t mean it will win Action/Adventure, nor will it automatically mean Rockstar North will win Studio of the Year. These video game award shows are goofy in that sort of way. But, anyway, basically, anything Naughty Dog/The Last of Us related I’d vote for it. Ashley Johnson as Ellie and Troy Baker as Joel were fantastic. Steven Ogg was incredible as Trevor as well though…I don’t know that’s a tough one.

Anyway, that’s about all I have to say, but what about you? Looking forward to VGX? Who do you think will win Game of the Year? What’s one game you’re looking forward to seeing? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
