Wind Waker HD Remake is now out on the Nintendo e-shop and looks really good!
Thats right, the Wind Waker HD Remake is now out on the Nintendo e-shop for the Wii U and while I personally haven’t played it yet on account of not owning a Wii U, the things that I’ve heard about it are quite good. Every remake has some sort of gimmik to separate itself from the original and the LoZ remakes don’t stray from this pattern. The Ocarina of time remake for the 3DS had the inherent quality of being a portable version of one of the most well received games of all time while the Wind Waker remake has been updated with HD graphics and an alternative light engine as well as some other tweaks to the gameplay to make it more enjoyable, just watch:
One of the biggest problems with the original Wind Waker was that it was trying to be too immersive for its own good. Sailing took effort due to having to change the direction of the wind manually and was dull to watch, fighting your ships cannon had no cursor so you had to guess where your cannonballs would go, the open world was, realistically, just open seas with few landmarks and nothing as far as the eye could see. The remake tries to fix some of these issues without effecting the core experience. People who despised how slow and dull sailing was will be happy to hear that after a while, you can buy a “swift sail” for your ship which allows you to go 50% faster and isn’t effected by the wind.
having proven it’s immersion enhancing skills in ZombieU, the Wii U’s tablet controller shines again by displaying map and inventory information meaning you no longer have to tediously pause when you want to change an item or see where you are. The tablet’s gyroscope can also be used for things like aiming your bow and other such things and the tingle tuner makes a glorious return with a twist. Instead of hooking up to a gameboy advance like the original Wind Waker, tingle can now send messages to the miiverse community asking for help in getting past a particularly hard puzzle.
In conclusion, The remake looks amazing and is definitely a game worth considering especially if you liked the original.
