Deepworld Released for Mac

Bytebin announced that Deepworld is now available for Mac users. Don’t worry Mac users, some people in the gaming industry love you after all. If it makes you feel any better, your Mac is much shinier than my PC. Deepworld is available for download on deepworldgame.com for $5.00. Not bad for an MMO. It will be coming to the App Store on November 15th and will give players a cross-platform experience. Mining/Steampunk addicts can sign up for the Deepworld iPad beta here.

Deepworld is a game that takes place in a steampunk universe like oh so many games in the modern age. At the moment, I can only think of Dishonored, Alice, Bioshock Infinite, and Professor Layton. The Bytebin staff has some details on the title: “Deepworld isn’t merely a sandbox for mining and crafting,” said Bytebin developers Mike Laurence and Jason Pearl. “It’s a full MMO where you can build your world with friends and meet new ones. The seamless cross-platform access through the cloud means that you can play at home on your Mac and anywhere on the iPad, entering right back into the same place in the game.” Deepworld allows players to scavenge and mine in the ruined world in addition to allowing them to assemble and craft items from what they found.

Players can craft hundred of items, fight monsters that lurk underground, customize their appearance, and work towards in-game goals that boost skill points. Unlike Minecraft, there appears to be an ultimate goal that players can work towards, as they try to recover their world and put it back together. Also unlike Minecraft, the creatures in the world don’t all have hard edges and 90 degree angles.
