Nintendo Shows Interest in Bringing Monogame Framework to Wii U

Indie developers are slowly, but surely starting to get recognition within the gaming industry. And Nintendo has shown interest in bringing the MonoGame Framework unto the Wii U console as reported by Siliconera.

Now for those who don’t know what The MonoGame Framework is, it is an open source version of Microsoft’s XNA 4.X  Framework used for easy cross-platform development.  It has previously been used by quite a few developers to create iterations of games for multiple platforms.

Titles such as Fez, Skulls of the Shogun, and Bastion have benefited from MonoGame Framework by re-using their codes through the framework.

There are other platforms that do support the MonoGame Framework, and they are :

  • Android
  • iOS
  • Windows Phone 8
  • PlayStation Mobile
  • Window PC
  • Mac
  • Linux
  • and OUYA
  • Wii U is the ninth platform

It has not been a good year the Wii U console, but hopefully with its along with its price drop, Wii U Zelda bundle, and now with MonoGame Framework in picture can bring the Wii U up and out of the slumps.

Well remember Nintendo’s announcement in early August, that they do have a growing support of indie developers, and that they will make available as much as 30 new indie titles in Wii U eShop by New Year – well it looks like they have finally managed to followed through and now we know how they plan on doing it.

Take a look at the indie games that are coming onto the Wii U eShop
