Analekta, an indie record company in Canada announced Angèle Dubeau’s latest album Game Music. “I have never placed limits on my choice of repertoire, and for this project, I reached toward a unique world that was creative and vibrant in its originality,” explains Angèle Dubeau, the violinist and artistic director of La Pietà. “In my quest to discover the gems of video game music, I listened to many works written and revisited by composers of great talent. Above all, I wanted to avoid distorting them, and my intention has been to preserve the form that initially won over video game aficionados while at the same time breathing new life into them.”
So the album features music from various gaming titles that should be familiar to most gamers. If not, well, maybe it’s time to put away the controller and find a new hobby. I hear carpentry is really popular. Go make a canoe.
Game Music features music from games like Tetris, Final Fantasy, Halo 3, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, Angry Birds, Chrono Trigger, Heavy Rain, and Secret of Mana. There’s something for everyone. Well, everyone who likes gaming. For those who don’t, who needs you.
Game Music is available today for digital download on iTunes while the physical CD is available today in Canada. The CD won’t be available in the US until October 30th, so if you really want to buy a physical representation of her music, you’ll have to wait. I’m sure this will upset dozens of people who cling to CDs because they insist that music on a CD sounds better. They probably own a record player and excitedly drop 30 bucks for an old piece of technology that they’re overpaying for with little to no difference in quality. I can’t wait until the VHS revival comes around. I’m going to make bank on people like that.
