Canada Gets First Dibs On Wii Mini For Only $100!

And out of the ashes rose (insert dramatic music) the Wii Mini! The crowd goes wild! It’s mini, its red and only $99? I’ll take one please.

That’s right kids; Nintendo has answered those pesky internet rumors. The Wii Mini is real and it’s coming to your doorstep this December! But those of us in the US and UK will have to wait…the Wii Mini will only be available in Canada. (Insert collective sad face for the masses)

The word spread today after Best Buy Canada promoted a Wii Mini on its home page. At first it looked like the ad was a mistake on the website due to the fact that the “Pre-Order Now” button wasn’t quite clickable.

“No information is available about its potential availability in other territories in the future,” Nintendo said in a press release.

Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but wouldn’t you rather have the new console released everywhere on the same time period instead of just one place? And then maybe we can ballpark when everyone else will get one later. Until then I will say congrats Canada, you lucky dogs.

The Wii Mini will feature a manual release top-loading disc tray. The console itself will be in a matte black finish with a fire engine red border and will be sold with the Wii sensor bar and a matching fire engine red MotionPlus controller and Nunchuk.

They system itself will not have any internet capability however and don’t expect GameCube support either. But, the Wii Mini will be compatible with at least 1,400 disc-based Wii games and will support “most Wii accessories.”

Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s VP and general manager stated that, “There are games in the Wii library for every type of player. Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price.”

See what he did there? Well I can’t speak for everyone but for someone who has been looking into purchasing her own Wii system, the Wii Mini looks pretty promising. Canada, have fun this holiday season. The rest of us will just have to have sweet, Wii Mini dreams until a release date is set.
