Journey with friends to tackle some huge beasts in RaiderZ – or die alone.
Okay kids, time for a history lesson: Back in the stone age of the previous console generation, Capcom had an idea for a multi-player game on the PS-2. Monster Hunter was an action-RPG where people with obscenely huge swords and spiky armor take on big monsters to get big loot. Supposedly the game got really popular with Japanese gamers and made several sequels on the PSP and Wii. Why do I bring up this history lesson? Well it seems like Perfect World Entertainment is interested in making this a game genre for a new MMORPG. And right now, if you’re lucky enough to carry around big swords and wear spiky armor to look for big loot, you can participate in the closed beta for RaiderZ.
RaiderZ looks to branch off from the wilderness setting from Monster Hunter and branch into mythological or mechanical monsters. Want to tell a Balrog-like creature that they can’t cross a bridge? Better pack some ice damage-dealing equipment then and visit a volcanic region. Tired of the generic Minotaur getting the same oral treatment from an angry man’s fiery blades? How about you and your buddies try slaying a clockwork Minotaur. Or maybe you and some friends can relax up north, throw a few snowballs at each other and gather some herbs – right before the gigantic yeti hurls boulders at your group.
The catch phrase for RaiderZ tells us to “hunt together or die alone,” and so far the game seems to show this off well. Unlike other MMORPGs, this focuses more on heavy action and dodging. So it might be similar to Dragons Dogma but with more mutli-player elements thrown in. RaiderZ will also feature a “flexible” class system, stunning environments to explore, and big weapons to swing at bigger monsters.
