Here we have the latest episode in the Tomb Raider Guide to Survival series. These videos explain the games mechanics ahead of the games release date.
Before I start mentioning the latest details that were revealed in the latest episode, here’s the first trailer and a friendly warning that both of the trailers content are only suitable for only over 18’s.
While the last episode dealt with how Lara is both smart and resourceful to the point where it is named exactly that, this episode instead explains what Lara can do at the base-camp and the ways that skills and tools Lara can use to explore the Island.
Lara can use fast travel to travel to all of the base camps. While in the fast travel menu the game will highlight which way Lara needs to go to continue through the games plot. The menu also keeps track of how many items hidden items are left in an area to find so you won’t have a repeat of the feather problem from Assassin’s Creed 2.
Along with fast travel Lara can also use the base-camp to level up or improve her gear and weapons. Like adding a scope to a rifle which will be very useful because the game will have something called “Gear Gating”. Gear Gating is where certain areas will be inaccessible till you get the upgrade or tool needed. Some items will have a secondary function like using the shotgun to destroy barricades as well as anyone stupid enough to stand in front of you.
One of the reasons to upgrade your gear is when you return to previous levels you will be able to get the hidden secrets that you couldn’t get before.
The next Guide to Survival episode will focus on Tomb Raider’s stealth and combat and after watching these trailers I can honestly say that this reimagining of Tomb Raider could be an early contender for game of the year but it’s still too early to tell. We will have to wait and see and hey Crystal Dynamic it would be nice if you’d would release a playable demo before its release. ( 5th of March.)
