e:info Games Unplugged’s new episode gives you a lot of what is new in the world of Telara in RIFT: Storm Legion.
One of the charms of an MMORPG is to explore the world, gather some green axes, and stomp out the existence of the native animals with a buddy. Video games from Action genres like Sleeping Dogs to old school RPGs like Avernum: Escape From the Pit all give us a large world to explore and various things to do. However an MMORPG needs to keep giving new land to explore if you and your buddies are interested in stomping a goblin’s face in somewhere else, and that seems to be the problem Trion Worlds intended to fix with their RIFT MMORPG. In the new expansion, it seems Trion Worlds gave a few bucks to down-on-her-luck Crucia to liven up the world in the new expansion, RIFT: Storm Legion.
RIFT: Storm Legion starts with Crucia – the Queen of Storms – unleashing havoc onto the natives of Telara. I’m not sure why Crucia is fighting against the Ascended (superhuman, resurrected warriors that each player in RIFT play as), but this does open up more areas for the players to explore. New areas will be opened up to players, along with more in-depth customization of their character.
RIFT: Storm Legion will open up the world of Telara with new continents and story arcs. Two huge continents will be available to explore around with your buddies, which should more than triple the size of the current game-world. If you and your friends are interested in the lore behind RIFT than playing through these worlds should reveal more of what Telara could be. Finally, if you are interested in socializing there is Tempest Bay, a new stronghold for both Guardians and Defiant.
RIFT: Storm Legion adds more depth in customizing your character as well. More souls are provided and integrated into the “Ascended Class System.” Need more XP? Then pick up new quests to get to the new level cap of 60. New Instant Adventures, Onslaughts, Rifts, events and more will be provided in the Expansion as well.
RIFT: Storm Legion is an expansion for RIFT MMORPG exclusively on the PC. Expect to see it available in Fall 2012.
