Endless Space Retail Copy Now Available

Publisher Iceberg Interactive and developer Amplitude Studios revealed the contents of the retail copy for Endless Space to fans of 4x space strategy games.

I never played Endless Space when it came out on Steam. I consider myself a PC gamer with a historical knowledge of PC games, though space exploration games never appealed to me. However I do enjoy exploration in games and the ability to make decisions in games that could influence the world, so Endless Space sounds like a game I’m missing out on. Fortunately the developers and publishers of Endless Space will be releasing a retail copy of the game for anyone that missed it earlier this summer.

The retail version will contain the “Emperor Special Edition” of Endless Space. This version will contain a skin pack, a unique ‘endless’ hero to hire, an additional 500 G2G (supposedly improves the value of your votes for the game art and design of their Web site), and a “Dev Team” forum award. The retail package will also contain a 48 page manual, along with a 28 page artbook in a luxurious slipcase packaging.

Endless Space premise isn’t something original, but it seems to match up well with the name. An ancient race known as the ‘Endless’ used to reside in our galaxy long before we knew how to fly. For some unknown reason, the ‘Endless’ vanished and what remains of their technology and culture is ‘Dust.’ Dictators, politics and corporations fight for these Dust artifacts to become the ruler of galaxies. Endless Space starts at this point with you picking to be a leader of one of eight civilizations to acquire galactic dominion. You could spend your time exploring every corner of the universe looking for these Dust artifacts, or engage in violent war with your warships to steal them from other civilizations.

What intrigues me is the scope of customization that might be in Endless Space. If none of the eight pre-built civilizations appeal to you, just make your own custom civilization and post it online for others to see. Your civilization could end up in war with other custom civilizations made by your friends in the online portion of the game. You can even create your own random galaxies to explore. Plus the game got several positive reviews from Web sites like The Escapist (80%) or Destructoid (75%).

Endless Space is available now on the PC through Steam or as a retail copy from Iceberg Web shop.
