Legend of Grimrock Dungeon Editor Open to Steam Users

Anyone that purchased a copy of Legend of Grimrock, the awesome dungeon-crawler RPG released earlier this year, has access to the Beta for the Dungeon Editor.

Good news to fans of the Legend of Grimrock game:  Almost Human, developers of Grimrock, just released the public Beta for the Dungeon Editor!  Bad news for fans of Legend of Grimrock:  If you bought the game from GOG.com (like me) or outside of Steam, you don't get access to the Dungeon Editor.

This is only a temporary thing as the Dungeon Editor is still in Beta.  "Steam's Automatic update system allows us to do frequent incremental updates to quickly patch issues that may arise," says Almost Human on their Web site.  It seems like they had to do a lot of adjustments to the original game so it could work with the Dungeon Editor, which means there might still be a bug or two.  After Almost Human gets enough data for the Legend of Grimrock Dungeon Editor, they will release it for other distribution platforms.

The Dungeon Editor for Legend of Grimrock will provide all the assets from the original game, and the ability to import your own.  As the trailer shows you could make a dungeon with a few clicks and test it out just as fast.  Later in the trailer imported assets like a ray gun show up (I wish that was available when I was fighting those Goromorgs.).

Along with the release of the Dungeon Editor, Almost Human announced the release of Grimrock Nexus.   Here modders can upload all the mods they made for Legend of Grimrock so other players can download them.  This will probably be the place to look if you got Legend of Grimrock elsewhere and would like to get your dungeon-crawling fix.

For anyone that wants to participate in the Steam only public beta of Legend of Grimrock Dungeon Editor, follow these instructions:  Right click on Legend of Grimrock from your library page and select Properties.  Click on the Betas tab and opt into the beta using the dropdown option.  The Steam client should then download the Dungeon Editor.
