Nintendo fans can finally get their Christmas lists finished off as today Nintendo announce the release date and technical specifications for the upcoming WiiU.
The Wii U is coming in loud with a stream of featured package deals, which will release November 30th 2012 in the UK and November 18th in the United States. The new console will come in two different bundles, which are:
Wii U Basic Set version with an 8 GB HDD at £249.99
Wii U Deluxe Set version with a 32 GB HDD at £299.99
Both versions can be purchased in black or white colouring; along with a selection of add on accessories that also come in a unique range of colours. These accessories include a new line of Motion Plus Wii remotes, nun chucks, and the all new WiiU Pro controller for gamers wanting a more mainstream controller interface like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
The console comes with an all hardware for the core gamer, which has been touted to be forty times more powerful than the original Wii:
"Espresso" CPU on the Wii U has three enhanced Broadway cores
"GPU7" AMD Radeon™-based High Definition GPU. Unique API = GX2, which supports Shader Model 4.0
2GB RAM
Internal 8 GB with support for SD Cards (SD Cards up to 2GB/ SDHC Cards up to 32GB) and External USB Connected Hard Drives
802.11 b/g/n Wifi
Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i
Video Cables Supported
Compatible cables include HDMI, Wii D-Terminal, Wii Component Video, Wii RGB, Wii S-Video Stereo AV and Wii AV.
Four USB 2.0 Ports
The Wii U will come with a single Wii U Touchscreen controller but buyers will also be able to purchase another touch screen controller for a single price of £104.
Nintendo hopes the controller hopes to bring an all new wave of innovation to the single player gamer and family buy allowing a multi-screen interface like that of the already popular Nintendo 3DS handheld.
The console packages will not come with bundled games apart from the already included Nintendoland mini games, so people wanting to get a New Super Mario Bros WiiU bundle will have to keep an eye out for homeland retailers and online stores.
Ultimately the pricing does sound very intriguing for Nintendo die hards. It will be interesting to see the sales reaction during release this coming winter. What is more interesting is to see how the console will match up against the highly rumoured release details of the upcoming rival systems from Sony and Microsoft.
