Nintendo have announced one of their strongest launch line-ups ever for the Wii U. Launch titles include a number of third party titles such as Fifa 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Zombi U and Rayman Legends. On launch day, gamers will also be able to pick up Nintendo’s in house titles including Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U.
New Super Mario Bros. U is the next 2D game in the Mario series and will be available upon the Wii U's launch. The game introduces a giant world map full of distinctive courses to discover. The GamePad can be used to play solo when the TV is in use and can also be used to assist other players when playing co-operatively. Gamers will be challenged in an all new boost rush mode where the auto-scrolling courses scroll faster depending on how many coins they pick up. In challenge mode gamers will face different gameplay depending on the specific nature of the challenge at hand. These include Time attacks and 1-Up challenges.
Nintendo Land is a launch title, and is set in a carnival atmosphere and will feature 12 attractions all of whom will be related to one of Nintendo’s famous franchises. Attractions include mini games like Luigi's Ghost Mansion and Pikmin Adventure.The game is intended to serve as the main demonstration of the functionality of the Wii U, along with its Wii U GamePad. Nintendo Land will be included in the UK and US Premium Wii U Pack.
FIFA 13 will also be available to buy on launch day. The football game promises to deliver an innovative connection to the world of football. The game will offer new ways to play FIFA and bring players of all abilities together.
Zombi U was shown at the Nintendo Direct conference as a launch title. The game is a survival horror first-person shooter Wii U exclusive from Ubisoft. In the game the player can assume the roles of various survivors during the game. New footage shown today revealed the Tower of London location in the game as well as survival mode where the player only has one life to survive.
The game will use the Wii U GamePad to use a weapon crafting feature that will allow players to customise their equipment. The game will also allow players to leave messages in the game for other players. ZombiU will also include online interactivity and allow gamers online friends who have been turned into zombies to turn up in the players game.
Nintendo and Ubisoft have also teamed up to create a special ZombiU launch bundle for the UK and Europe. The Zombi U Premium pack will include the game and a black Wii U Pro Controller.
Rayman Legends will also be available upon the Wii U’s launch. The sequel to Rayman Origins is a 2D platformer which offers a unique gameplay dynamic to players depending on which controller they use. The Wii U gamepad offers players a tactile interaction with the game world. They will be able to move objects, turn parts of the level around and protect other players when playing with the GamePad.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is another Wii U launch title. The game is set in the year 2025 and propels players into global conflict featuring advanced weaponry, robotics, and drone warfare in a new Cold War scenario. Black Ops II feaures new graphics technology that will drive the cinematic action of the single players campaign.
Mass Effect 3 Special Edition will be available at launch. Gamers will play as Commander Shepard and join the race to defeat the reapers in an all out galactic war. The Special Edition will also include interactive story covering the events of the previous two games in the series. Wii U players will also experience the ‘From Ashes’ DLC and ‘Extended Cut’ ending in the game.
Lego City undercover is an exclusive Wii U launch game where players assume the role of undercover cop Chase McCain in an open world packed with many missions to complete. Players can use a wide variety of disguises to infiltrate different parts of the sprawling cityscape or hop on one of over 100 vehicles to take in its many sights. The Wii U GamePad will act as a multi-purpose gadget that can be used to scan the environment for hidden items, receive video messages from HQ and much more.
A number of Nintendo eShop exclusives will be available upon launch. These include Trine 2: Director’s Cut, Toki Tori 2 and Nano Assault Neo. All of these games can be played on the Wii U GamePad.
Nintendo also announced the previously undisclosed Wii U games Monster Hunter 3 Wii U and Bayonetta 2.
Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive by Platinum Games. Bayonetta 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Bayonetta. The game was a third person action game where gamers assumed the role of the title character, who used her four pistols and magical attacks to defeat enemies.
Capcom’s Ryozo Tsujimoto announced that the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate edition will be released on the Wii U and 3DS. The game is set for release in the UK in 2013 and is an enhanced edition of Monster Hunter Tri. Gamers will be able to play the game on Wii U and then continue using the same save file when they leave the house on their 3DS.
The touch screen feature of Monster Hunter 3 on both consoles will allow players to quickly access in-game books, weapons, field maps and mini games. Capcom have promised that the world will be stunning thanks to the high quality graphics on Wii U and the 3D visuals on 3DS which are powered by the latest iteration of Capcom's MT Framework.
