Nintendo Looking For Indie Support At GDC Europe 2013

If you’re planning to attend the Game Developers Conference Europe 2013 whether you are a developer or not, you will be exited to hear that Nintendo will once again be attending the conference but this time they will be giving talks about how to self publish on the Nintendo E-Shop and how to use the Nintendo Web Framework and Unity tools which apparently will be useful for creating Wii U content. Nintendo looking for indie support isn’t much of a surprise considering how famous the Xbox Live Arcade was for both keeping the system popular and fun for Microsoft and also giving indie developers a chance to flex their creative muscles in front of a wide audience. So the question remains, will Nintendo’s plan pull the Wii U out of its nosedive or will it seal its fate. Only time will tell but for now, lets look at the talks that Nintendo will be hosting.

Each of the two sessions will be teaching developers how to use a different set of software to create Wii U games. The first being the Nintendo Web Framework which will allow you to create Wii U software using common web technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript and CSS or if you want to go deeper, you can use “Unity” which is supposedly used by over 2 million developers worldwide. Unity uses much more sophisticated technology such as 3D graphic functionality, animation, AI, scripts and FX. Both sets of software will allow you to incorporate both the wii remote motion technology and the Wii U gamepad into your games which will allow you to flex your creative muscles even further as you think of ways people can interact with the world that you have created.
